DOST now Offering Scholarships, Grade 12 students are encouraged to apply

Students on 12th grade standing in the academic year 2019-2020 are now encouraged to apply for S&T scholarships by Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). This is done to push some students to pursue careers in science and technology.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The student must be a natural-born Filipinos with good moral character and in good health. Students in the STEM strand can apply for the scholarship. As for the non-STEM students, they may also apply as long as they are in the 95th percentile in their graduating class.

There is also an option for students who are in families with socio-economic indicators that meet the cut-off values may apply as RA 7687 scholars. One of the requirements for them is to have been residents of the municipality for the last four years. However, if the socio-economic information doesn’t meet the cut-off values, the students may apply as Merit scholars.

The requirements for the application are to pass the 2020 S&T Undergraduate Scholarships Examination and to pursue a four or a five year Bachelor of Science degree program in any of the fields study that are prioritized at a state university or college or any other private higher education institution that is recognized by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a Center of Excellence or Center of Development or with at least a FAAP Level III accreditation for the Bachelor of Science degree program that the students want to enroll in.

Scholars of DOST-SEI will receive the following financial assistance:

a) P40,000 every academic year to cover the tuition and other school fees,
b) P7,000 for monthly living allowance,
c) P10,000 every year for book allowance,
d) transportation allowance,
e) group accident insurance, and
f) graduation clothing allowance.

The documentary requirements and application form may be submitted to the DOST-SEI Science and Technology Scholarship Division (STSD) office at the DOST Compound, General Santos Avenue, Bicutan, Taguig City or it may also be submitted to any DOST Regional Office or Provincial Science and Technology Center before 6th of September, 2019. The date for the nationwide examination will be on the 20th of October, 2019.
