Transport groups have set to conduct another strike on Monday and Tuesday, December 4 and 5 prompting some cities to suspend classes.

Pinagkaisahang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) and the No To Jeepney Phaseout Coalition (NTJPC) will hold their 4th nationwide strike this year to protest the impending phaseout of old jeepneys in January 2018.

The Department of Transportation is set to phase out old and deteriorated public utility vehicles (PUVs) this coming January.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade warned those jeepney operators and drivers who would participate on the said strike that their franchises and licenses would be cancelled.

Tugade criticized Piston for allegedly refusing to set a dialogue with authorities.

*UPDATE* The strike has been called off by the transport group Piston.

In lieu with the impending nationwide strike, here is a list of areas where classes have been suspended for Monday, December 4;

  • Albay – all levels (public and private) “except those in the island and remote/far-flung barangays/areas that will be determined by the local government school authorities”
  • The municipality of Guagua, Pampanga and Camarines Sur province, earlier declared suspension of classes, but later rescinded their announcement after the strike was called off.

The list will be updated when other local government units declare suspension of classes. You can check back on this page or follow our FACEBOOK PAGE for updates.
